Now that summer is in full swing, it is time to formally introduce the Bluewater University Class of 2017. This year’s class includes eight interns hailing from seven universities in two states. For their group project, the interns were tasked with coordinating a special event for some very special guests. The most important aspect of the project is giving back to a charity, so they chose to partner with CARE House of Oakland County, a charity that provides first rate services to victims of child abuse and neglect. Our interns will activate a Star Wars Night event at Jimmy John's field, overseeing multiple themed activations that will be at the game. Now, we know you can’t wait any longer, so let’s meet our talented interns!
First is Dustin Koelzer. Dustin is one of our Marketing interns and oversees the social media campaign behind Star Wars Night. He is a recent graduate from Northwood University with a major in entertainment and sports management. He enjoys hanging out with his three Golden Retrievers and binge-watching television shows. He also uses movie quotes to communicate more than anyone should.
Next is Claire Sjogren, who is a Sales intern here at Bluewater. Claire has been instrumental in the quest of finding a perfect charity to work with during Star Wars Night. She is going into her sophomore year at Michigan State University as a marketing major. Her favorite thing to do is coach soccer and watch “How I Met Your Mother.”
Alyssa Tefend is spending her second summer at Bluewater, this year as one of the team leads on Star Wars Night. She is entering her senior year at Northwood University in the International Business Management program and is studying at John Cabot University in Rome for the fall semester. You can find Alyssa speaking Spanish as well as basic Korean and Italian. She has the weirdest music library — with songs from nearly every genre — that she likes to play too loudly while driving with the windows down. Other hobbies include running, dancing, and coffee.
Noah Balanda is our other Marketing intern and is working on multiple video projects and activations for Bluewater. This internship finishes up his last credits for his media communications degree from Lawrence Technological University. He is in charge of creating Magic Door scenes for Star Wars Night and is putting together interview packages with the Sales team.
Next is Chris Winter, a Live Events Design Intern who assists with ground plans and rendering in Live Events and is responsible for activations at Star Wars Night. Next year, he will be graduating from Oakland University with a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology. He enjoys making art in any way possible and will find any way, taking any route, to entertain people.
Jamie Cowan is the Creative Intern in charge of designing merchandise and content for Star Wars Night. She is a recent graduate of Macomb’s Media and Communication Arts program with a focus in illustration. She enjoys writing and creating fantasy worlds and mainly lives in her head. When she is on this planet, Jamie likes to draw, do musical nonsense, go adventuring, and can usually be found with her favorite partner in crime and dork, Greg.
Lexi Lopez is our intern in charge of RSVPs, invites, and email invitations. She has planned a lot of the organizational side of the event. Lexi recently graduated from the University of Toledo with a double major in marketing and sales. She loves to watch “Friends” and her favorite food is sushi.
Finally, Andrew Bradley is an intern in our Live Events department and is helping with activations during the event. He is our house expert on Star Wars and has helped create both the trivia and the personality quiz. Andrew is a second-year student at Wayne State University where he studies music technology. In his free time, he enjoys Dungeons and Dragons, playing music, and spending time with his dog, Todd.
